In 1873 a frail figure was walked to the gallows at the Adelaide Gaol. She had been convicted of murdering her husband, and there would be de no reprise. The hanging of Elizabeth Woolcock has gone on in Australian true crime history as one of the most contested cases to result in capital punishment.

In The Shadow Of The Gallows is a psychological and biographical masterpiece that deals into not only the biographical and forensic details of the case, but also the psychological state of a 23 year old woman in the final hour of her life.

Hilary's training for the role of Elizabeth Woolcock includes her staring role for the sold-out stage play, "The Hanging of Elizabeth Woolcock". 

Her raw sense of self, her connection to the character of Elizabeth Woolcock and her research into the role has brought one of the most chilling performances of a generation.

Matthew Jackson

Veteran actor, Matthew Jackson, has made a strong name for himself as a rising talent in the Australian movie industry through his portrayals of touch, though sensitive characters that bring a story to life. 

Portraying the priosn officer character, Matthew delivers the substance of his skills effortlessly in this movie, creating a platform for his fellow cast to benefit from.

Deb Robinson

Acclaimed historian, published author, specialist in Australian crime history and head historian at the National Crime and Punishement Museum at the Geelong Gaol Museum, Deb Robinson makes her acting debut, presenting an incredibly challenging role alongside Hilary Boyce.

While portraying the figure of the church minister's wife, and also representing the subconcious of Elizabeth Woolcock as she descends into madness, Deb's portrayal of the role is impeccable.

Stuart Jaymes

Seasoned cinematographer, colourist and sound specialist, Stuart Jaymes' technical and practical knowledge of film making has quickly made him an indie cinema icon. 

 

Heavily inspired by Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, David Fincher, Janusz Kamiński, Darius Khondji, Roger Deakins and Jeff Cronenweth, Stuart brings a compelling and thought-provoking style to everything he shoots, colours and edits all of his own works.
